Hurry Up, Take Your Time

Hurry Up and Wait

Hurry Up, Take Your Time

“Hurry Up Take Your Time” was or maybe still is used in a routine by Domonique and his Amazing Flying Cats found in Mallory Square, Key West. He used this phrase when asking for audience participation to perhaps find a treasure in their pockets or bags ala Let’s Make a Deal, to use in the act or to earn a prize. This phrase was not only uniquely funny because of its oxymoronic nature but because it was also said with a theatrical delivery adding to the urgency, yet casual, “no pressure” attitude from Domonique. This phrase has stuck with us since we heard it back in 2002.

Sometimes we arrive at a point in our lives that the same is true. Hurry up and get there, and now, wait. What’s the point in waiting? Why wait? In your mind everything is ready to go, but in reality there may be some pieces missing to complete the puzzle that you cant just see yet. Ever experience the “ah-ha” moment and think, or sometimes even say out loud, “THAT’S WHY!” It’s when the last piece arrives and it FINALLY all makes sense. You thought you were ready but the fruit was not ripe yet.

HOW TO HURRY UP and TAKE YOUR TIME

Hurry up and wait. So you’ve arrived, or THINK you have arrived. But do you feel settled? How do you really know? Did you know that feelings are stronger than thoughts? In our previous blog post about Conserving Your Cortisol Response we learned that how we feel effects our thoughts. How do you want to feel? Let’s turn on more of that feeling. That feeling is what is known as embodiment.

WHAT IS EMBODIEMENT

Embodiment gets us out of a state of “mental whiplash” – when we are moving so fast and not taking a moment to settle into “wait, what am I feeling/what do I FEEL?” And how are these feelings influencing my thoughts. How will you know when you get there?. Embodiment is making the connection of our head-heart-gut brains. when the three brains are aligned that is when more activation of a settled feeling is present. You may feel more clear, more nourished, more at peace. Embodiment is turning on more of THAT feeling. The more feeling we WANT to turn on, the more that feeling expands. This quote we highlighted in the last blog post noted above is too good to not share again:

Where focus goes, energy flows. And where energy flows, whatever you’re focusing on grows

Tony Robbins

So by slowing down and taking your time, doing your due diligence, lining up the pins you are more likely to STRIKE! It’s about one step at a time. The goal is progress, not perfection. The goal is daily integration of our focus/what we want. Energy follows intention. YES, you can START before you are ready and BEFORE all the pieces in place. This is a common misnomer that we have to have this “just so” or “just a certain way” or how often have you heard, “I’ll be happy when…” Why not be happy now? Goals are a work in progress and the goal post may change overtime too. The path is not a linear. So even if you think you have arrived and something else still isn’t gelling, this is where you take your time.

Progress, not perfection” is an often-used phrase in recovery circles. Its origin is the 12-step program of AA (Alcoholics Anonymous). It has also been used by many motivational speakers.

And Now Hurry Up And Wait

Wait, what? Are we welling you to WAIT? Typically you will hear us say DON’T WAIT, especially when it comes to taking care of yourself or making some appts at Tao. AND this is still the case! However we are talking about feelings of perfectionism and needing things in place that make you WAIT or feel like you have to wait before you can experience enjoyment of little goals and celebrate and reflect upon what has been accomplished.

Reality is you can start now/anytime and start to feel better BEFORE everything is “perfect” As a matter of fact it’s the desire of wanting to expand the feelings of what you desire that allows for more of that in your life (kinda mind blowing, right?), hence, don’t wait to…come to Tao, for example.

It’s about progress not perfection. Focusing on the now/present moment will allow for expansion of your current experience, THAT feeling that feels GOOD. You will not feel like you are waiting. You will feel like you are RECEIVING (within the waiting). And there in lays the key…

The “wait is over”
