Don’t Let Life Get In the Way of Living

When catching up with friends you usually hear that “life” is holding them back. All the little daily stuffs that busy our time to keep us from living. When we slow down and realize what is actually important in life we realize we may not be living in alignment with what we really what. In our blog post about “How to Feel “the ick” we talked about how wisdom from the body sends us messages that include feeling safe and protected. When we are living our most aligned life our body will naturally fall into place by releasing stress via weight loss, for example, and chronic pains diminishing. If we let life get in the way of living we feel like a fragile glass vase, getting bumped just the right or wrong way we will lose our footing and smash to the ground. The good news is that sometimes something of someone comes along that allows us to gain a new perspective to rebuild and replenish ourselves.

ENTER KINTSUGI

This illustration by Mari Andrews reminds us of kintsugi: the Japanese art of putting back broken pottery pieces back together with gold. Within kintsugi is the lesson to embrace your flaws and imperfections to create something even more beautiful and stronger than before. That is a life that is imperfect and full of ups and downs gets to be supported by living a life you enjoy and can find rest in AND it may look very different than what it was before but that does not mean that you are lost along the way. You are just rebuilding your body and brain to better serve you once you pick up the pieces and reorder them in a way to better serve you,

AMOR FATI

The closest phrasing is from a scholar we admire however, Nietzsche‘s “amor fati” translated as “love of fate” that is embracing life to it’s fullest and finding pleasure in what life brings you no matter the outcome. To some this authentic way of living may be too hard to understand as that may be constrained by “limited perspectives or adherence to societal norms, might not be able to comprehend the profound beauty and authenticity of those who live life passionately and authentically.

Nietzsche argues that those who dance to their own music have embraced their inner passions and desires to the fullest extent. Although they may be misunderstood or judged by others who lack the ability to perceive the depth and beauty of such individuality, Nietzsche nonetheless defends this way of living thoroughly.” (from this The Collector article)

When we allow ourselves to LIVE the day-to-day grind of life becomes easier to bare. Our “to-do” list shrinks and becomes easier to manage because we are managing our mind with ease; breaking patterns of unhealthy destruction that cripples our ability to move forward.

In the words of Toni Jones, “I’m no longer orienting around pain, I am organizing around pleasure” from “Healing Is Not My Purpose, her spoken word self care rap continues:

My purpose is to be enjoyed

My purpose is to feel amazing with myself

My purpose is to realize who I am being in love.

My purpose is to enjoy food.

My purpose is to reinvent fun

My purpose is to express who I am.

My purpose is to satisfy my soul.

My purpose is to inspire through my being.

My purpose is to have fun.

Health is not the absence of illness, but the presence of vitality, joy, and purpose in your LIFE, i,e living!
